Intention

Oneness with form, function, beauty, and simplicity to reveal a quietness at the soul of the piece itself.

Artist Statement

In the field of ceramics there exists an infinite number of possibilities in which an artist can pursue. In the age of excess that has filtered through our society I am choosing to pull back on that excess to reveal the true beauty of the form. I am an artist that designs works of art for the modern lifestyle. I make beautiful ceramic art forms that embody simple elegance and imbue tranquility. To create true substance I focus on the form itself.

A short time ago I was exposed to working with porcelain. I have embraced the natural qualities found in the material itself. I work with porcelain to create wheel thrown forms that at times are hand altered through the use of water etching. The exterior of the pieces are often left unglazed to reveal its natural beauty. The absence of color creates focused attention on the form itself. Pulling from my background I also embrace simple graphic shapes through the use of underglazes that enhance the form and highlight the porcelain.

At the heart of my ceramics is oneness; oneness with form, function, beauty, and simplicity to reveal a quietness at the soul of the piece itself.

I originally hail from Ohio and graduated cum laude from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. I have been a long time Arizona resident and currently reside in Tucson.
